Erin's advice

It's good that you're conscious of the fact that you need to be a "healthy" weight. In this day and age there is way too much emphasis on looking wafer thin like a lot of the unhealthy celebrities we see in the media. These celebrities live in a world that is not real, and thus it's important to realize we do not follow the same rules for appearance and health as they do. What you need to do is take a look at your nutritional and exercise habits, keeping in mind that you're at an age where your metabolism (the rate at which your body converts food to energy) is changing and you're still growing.

1. Are you eating healthy? How much junk food are you eating? Fast food is crammed full of fats and sugars that are hard to digest and have no nutritional value. You shouldn't expect to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight when eating these types of food. This includes burgers and fries, pizza, potato chips, candy, soda pop etc.
2. Portion control. Do you find you eat until you are full and uncomfortable? This is not necessary. You only need to eat until you are no longer hungry. If this means eating 6 smaller meals a day, even better. This will keep your metabolism at a healthier rate.
3. Are you skipping meals? This is an absolute no-no and again will screw up your metabolism as well affect your brain function.
4. Are you exercising? This is extremely important. You don't have to run a marathon, but you need to be active for at least 20 minutes a day. This will also improve your motivation for staying healthy.

If you're still having difficulty after this, make an appointment to see your family doctor and they can give you some further suggestions tailored to you.
Good luck!
